What are Carbon Nanotubes?
A carbon nanotube, known as a CNT, is one of the smallest structures imaginable – a tube made of carbon atoms that is measured in one of the smallest increments ever – nanometers. A CNT is approximately 15,000x smaller than a human hair.
CNTs are built from carbon atoms, and connected in a lattice-like sheet, which is also known as a graphene sheet. When a graphene sheet is rolled into a seamless cylinder, it becomes a carbon nanotube. When viewed the CNT’s look like black dust and could be mistaken for black toner for a printer.
Mechanical & Electrical Properties
Because these tubes are constructed at a carbon-atom level, CNTs have truly exceptional mechanical and electrical properties. For example, they are extremely strong and extremely effective conducting heat.
Single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) have diameters around 0.5–2.0 nanometers. Multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) consist of nested single-wall carbon nanotubes nested inside of another carbon nanotube. Double- and triple-walled carbon nanotubes are special cases of MWCNT.

The cylindrical shape and graphene-based structure of carbon nanotubes and their resulting strength, flexibility, and conductivity make them an exceptional material for applications that involve the transfer of energy, such as battery production.
At Cnano USA, we produce CNTs and mix them into various pastes that are used as a component in batteries. In itself, the paste has zero capacity to do anything. Our pastes do not store energy, produce energy, nor do they retain data nor transmit information. Our CNTs are not devices and cannot initiate any type of action.
Lithium-ion battery manufacturers use our pastes as the connective materials between the various layers of active materials inside their batteries. For batteries to perform at their best, it is critical that the least amount of energy is lost during the charging and discharging of the battery. Because our CNT’s are high quality and very conductive, electrons can move extremely efficiently within the battery cell, thereby reducing the energy loss, resulting in a battery that enables faster charging and more range for the electric vehicle.
